Preparing a Research Paper in the Age of AI

From October 16 to December 4, Impulse held an integrated online course "Preparing a Research Paper in the Age of AI." The course aimed at developing the skills of scientific writing in English and preparing manuscripts for international journals. A special feature was integrating AI tools to assist in writing and editing scientific texts, as well as in searching for literature.
The participants noted the practical orientation of the course and the systematic approach crafting a research paper: from developing a research question to logically structuring the text from sentences and paragraphs to paper sections. Some participants mentioned that although the course focused on research writing in English, the gained knowledge might also be useful for preparing manuscripts in Russian.
The course also emphasized the importance of working with AI tools: in addition to automatic translators, participants practiced using language editors, searching literature via specialized AI tools, and creating prompts for research writing.
Besides, the participants highly appreciated the opportunity to learn from the experiences of the university colleagues who actively get published in scientific journals, which enabled less experienced participants to understand how to properly organize the process and stages of writing an article.
Overall, the course was found to be very useful and structured, providing a better understanding of how to start writing a paper and how to systematically progress toward a successful publication.
