Center for Academic Writing “Impulse”
Writing is the best way to talk without being interrupted.
Writing is thinking on paper.
When writing about science, don't simplify the science; simplify the writing.
Writing is a lot easier if you have something to say.
The reason one writes isn't the fact he wants to say something. He writes because he has something to say.
Good writing is clear thinking made visible.
A man who is ignorant of foreign languages is also ignorant of his own language.
Only the educated are free.
One`s work may be finished someday, but one`s education never.
What sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to the soul.
Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.

Scientific Writing School
The Center opened its doors for the University students during 3-day Scientific Writing School (SWS). The project was initiated by Elena Yuzhakova, Oxford Russia Fund TSU coordinator, who is aware of the necessity to develop writing skills of promising young researchers among Oxford Russia Fund grantees. From February 28th to March 2nd, nine selected participants discussed strategies of writing scientific articles for international journals and ways of communicating your research to editors and readers. The group had very diverse experience, ranging from those who have already published their articles in Scopus journals to those who heard about Impact Factor for the first time. The trainers and the participants realize that the short term school is not enough to become a perfect scientific writer, but it is the first step on the road of successful publishing.
The program trainers, Valeria Evdash and Nadezhda Zhuravleva, found the experience of working with students useful and rewarding. They think it is essential to engage students in such activities and encourage them to gain their voice in the international scientific world.

Short, simple and well-structured course with optimal number of students. I would advise to visit such courses for every student to develop culture of writing and to get excited about international publishing.

It was very useful for me as an undergraduate Russian student, and the program opened my mind to the world’s academic context.

“I liked all things: perfect teachers, balance between theory and practical skills, English speech, different opinions, discussions’.
