The British Council “Researcher Connect” Programme

Аdair Richards, a British Council trainer, conducted a serious of workshops within the British Council “Researcher Connect” programme. Twenty researchers from Tyumen State University and State Agrarian University of the Northern Trans-Urals took part in the workshops from March 13 to March 15, 2017. The major topics covered were academic writing, abstracts, and persuasive proposals. The trainer managed to combine challenging writing tasks with a number of interactive activities, which involved a lot of movement, discussion of the participants’ research, and creative presentations.
The participants mentioned  that through the entertaining format they could see a very insightful and thought-provoking approach to scientific writing.

Here you can find the participants’ feedback:

Timofei Protasov, Editor of University Journal, Postgraduate
“Visiting the academic writing seminars (held by the Center for Academic Writing together with the British Council on March 13-15, 2017) was wonderful.
First of all, it was very useful in professional terms. All the information shared there was very helpful to me both as a journal editor and as a researcher.
Secondly, the creativity of tasks kept my wits at the limit and forced me to think. I have not experienced that in a while.
Finally, it generally was a well-spent time with nice and smart people in a friendly atmosphere. I loved it very much.
I also want to thank the great speaker of the event, Dr. Adair Richards -- listening to him was a great pleasure”.

Olga Teplyakova, Associate professor of Chair of Constitutional and Municipal Law, Institute for State and Law
“From March 13 to 15, 2017, the seminar "Researcher Connect" was held at Tyumen State University. The seminar was very productive and useful. For three days, the researchers communicated with the British Council trainer and with each other.
I really liked the trainer Adair who said: "There is only one rule in my seminar: be friendly. I have no other rules", аnd, indeed, during all three days the atmosphere was very pleasant, friendly and high working capacity was maintained.
Communication was very fruitful. We have learned to determine the audience of a scientific article, to formulate an attractive and clear title, to write a short and effective abstract, to make persuasive proposals.
We met our colleagues and understood how many interesting and useful scientific developments are being created in our university.
Thanks a lot to Tyumen State University, the Center for Academic Writing and the international organization British Council for such an interesting event in the life of the researchers”.

Marina Korentovich, Associate Professor, Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture Department, Agricultural University of Northern Trans-Urals
“Thank you very much for the wonderful seminar!
I have really got a great pleasure to collaborate with such a friendly staff.
Everything was organized perfectly - from the choice of Workshop Room to the Coffee Break))))
The most important person, of course, is our nice friendly charming lecturer Adair.
I remember our joint collegial cooperation, ability to work individually and in a team with great pleasure.
Hope to continue our collaboration in the future”.

Andrei Aleksandrov, Institute of Earth Sciences
"The seminar "Researcher Connect" was at a very high professional level. I can mention the excellent visibility of presentations, materials for the workshop, as well as high adaptability of the program of the seminar to the real life of the modern researcher. I would like to participate again in the seminar “Researcher Connect"."
