The Center gives "Impulse" to the University English Language Teachers

The Center gives “Impulse” to the University English language teachers
A new project for English teachers “Action Research” started in October. This is a joint project of the Center for Academic Writing and the Regional Institute for International Cooperation, which aims at increasing research and publication activity of the English language teachers. The trainers of the course are Sue Garton (Associate Dean for External Relations, Director of MSc TESOL Programmes School of Languages and Social Sciences Aston University Birmingham UK),  Valeria Evdash and Nadezhda Zhuravleva.

The first stage of the project was a 4-day intensive workshop devoted to familiarizing with Action Research. Action research is a perfect model for practitioners to investigate their teaching context and share their findings with others through writing an article. The trainers explained the main concept and the stages of Action Research, shared their own experiences of conducting it and dwelt on some ways of data collection and analysis. The project participants discussed the given examples of articles about Action Research and ethical issues involved at all the stages. The final objective of the workshop was developing the participants’ research questions and their own action plan to stick to while doing their own research.
After the workshop, the teachers feel extremely motivated to try their hand in Action Research. The project is expected to last throughout the academic year, and by the end of the year, the participants wish to prepare a draft of their Action Research articles.
