Writing is the best way to talk without being interrupted.
Writing is thinking on paper.
When writing about science, don't simplify the science; simplify the writing.
Writing is a lot easier if you have something to say.
Good writing is clear thinking made visible.
A man who is ignorant of foreign languages is also ignorant of his own language.
Only the educated are free.
One`s work may be finished someday, but one`s education never.
What sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to the soul.
Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.
Academic Discussion Club First Meeting
The Academic Discussion Club (ADC) was launched on January 30.
The Academic Discussion Club is a welcoming space for university postgraduates, faculty, and researchers to discuss topical issues, discoveries, and trends of the modern scientific world.
The topic of the first meeting was Societal Collapse. The moderator was Denis V. Sharapov, Ph.D. 2018-2019 U.S. Fulbright Scholar in Russia, Postdoctoral researcher, International Laboratory for Climate Change, Land Use, and Biodiversity, Tyumen State University.
Participants were expected to read two short and engaging texts prior to the session. The thought-provoking questions sparked the meaningful conversation on societal collapse.
Involving in the Club was beneficial for the participants. They not only gained some knowledge about the nature, causes, and consequences of collapsed societies, but also practiced English a lot and had an enjoyable evening.
The style and knowledge of the moderator were absolutely amazing. The discussion was well-facilitated and well-paced affording ample opportunities for sharing the participants’ own views on the issues discussed at the meeting.
All the participants came away feeling more knowledgeable, inspired, and willing to participate in the next meeting.
The Club meetings are held monthly, so stay tuned for upcoming events.
Participants' Feedback:
Elena Zarubko:
"Speaking is an essential part of academic communication. That's why I am glad to participate in the Academic Discussion Club. The first meeting was fascinating! I enjoyed both the quality of our discussion and the way the moderator conducted it. All guests had a chance to express their opinions, different points of view were compared, and the conclusions were made accurately and precisely. The topic, societal collapse, was interdisciplinary enough to enhance the exchange of opinions of the participants as we all were from different fields of science. Thanks to Valerya and Denis and congratulations with the beginning of such an interesting and useful project! I wish many fruitful discussions and productive collaborations to all of us."

"I would like to thank Denis Sharapov and Valeria Evdash for organizing the first meeting of Academic Discussion Club. The discussion was informative and well moderated by Denis. I personally have learned a lot about Archaeology and the ancient monuments. The number of people was appropriate for such format so everyone had a chance to share their thoughts on the topic. I highly recommend all the researchers and lecturers of our university to take part in the upcoming discussions".

"Посещение дебютного заседания дискуссионного клуба оставило исключительно позитивные впечатления. Интереснейший материал для дискуссии, харизматичный модератор, непринужденная атмосфера. Модератором был задана правильная установка, позволившая не обращать внимание на уровень языка и ошибки, а получать удовольствие от общения. С нетерпением жду следующего заседания".
