March Academic Discussion Club
The topic of the ADC March meeting was Feminism: National, Academic, and Media Dimensions.
The moderator was Elena Arbatskaya, Institute of Social Sciences & Humanities, Tyumen State University.
The participants were engaged in fruitful and open exchanges of opinions. Sometimes the meeting had even a dash of debate; the participants were looking at the issue from many angles. They shared their expertise and experience. They compared the development of feminism in different countries and Russia.
This meeting definitely provided the participants with some food for thought, and it was a terrific use of the participants’ time.
Elena Arbatskaya shared her opinion:
"I really like this new format of activity, which Impulse offered – ADC! I really appreciated the opportunity to be a moderator of the meeting devoted to feminism. The points of view of the participants were different, so the discussion was really hot. It was an exciting experience!"

"The first meeting of the Academic Discussion Club I visited was devoted to feminism. I enjoyed the discussion, and I liked that very different opinions were represented there. I've met some people I would like to continue to be in touch with, and I think it is very important especially considering the fact that most UTMN faculty communicate with colleagues from their departments and do not know a lot of people outside of the departments. At least, it is definitely my case. I liked also that most of the participants seemed to be really interested in the content of the discussion and not just in practicing their English. Finally, as a sociologist, I enjoyed not only being involved in the discussion but also observing different opinions and beliefs about feminism among UTMN professors. The ADC organizers, including the moderator, did a great job!"
